Online Entry Features

I am learning the new online entry system along with you, and will send along features as I figure them out. I can change any entry - make additions, deletions and changes if I feel that there are better event options for your swimmer.  Your credit card is not billed until the day I finalize entries - this is typically the day that I send entries to the host. You are also billed only for the events that the coaching staff approves, so if that happens to be fewer events than you initially chose, you won't be over billed.  After finalize entries I send an email to each participant. It has a nifty little summary of your events.  You receive a receipt, via email, of your entry fees that are billed to your credit card.  You can access the list of team meets via our online entry portal at any time.  You can access a nice summary of your events simply by logging in to your account on active. Here's a direct link to our Meet Portal:  https://cui.active.com/swim-reg/logi

Paralympic Trials

If you were able to follow some of the Facebook and Twitter updates, then you will have read that Richard had an incredible Trials meet.  After 8 years away from the pool, Richard came out of retirement when his disability class was reinstated into Paralympic Sports. After just over 12 months of training, we were thrilled to see Richard get near his best time in the 200 free (dropping 10 seconds form his season best), Mile and 200 fly. He also got a lifetime best in the 100 back and set a new American Record in both the 100 back and the 50 from his 100 split.  He also achieved the PanAmerican Record for s14's in the 100 back!!  Richard won all four of his events, however he did not get his World Rankings high enough in the two Paralympic contested events (200 free & 100 back) to earn a spot on the US Team.  Richard  plans to continue to train and to work towards the next level of time standards in US Para Swimming so that he can earn a spot on National Teams in the future.

Silver Summer Coaching Staff

Due to some coaching changes and schedule conflicts, we have had to adjust the coaching schedules for the Silver 1 & 2 groups. An impromptu meeting was held with Silver parents at practice this morning to explain some of the changes.  Please, if you have a question or concern, address me directly.  Here are the coaching assignments for the remainder of the summer: Mondays 5-6:30 Coach Denise Tuesdays & Thursdays - small groups - Coach Angie Tuesday, Thursday & Friday long course and Wednesdays 5-6:30  - Coach Laurie I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with our younger swimmers this summer!  Here are some of the tidbits that I passed along to the parents this morning: While it has been a few years, I do have loads of experience working with younger swimmers.  Please be patient while I resurrect my 10 & under mojo :)  I need to rework my communication skills a bit for the group and am working hard on pulling up my old skill set there. If you feel t

Thank You

Thank you to every parent that helped coach Lew this week-end by getting your swimmer to the blocks on time!  Coach Lew was a one man show most of the week-end in some pretty tough meet conditions. I certainly appreciate knowing that we have the kind of parents that will step up and help out when needed!  If you would like to thank Coach Lew, he takes his coffee black and is at Columbus North at 6:30 am on Mondays and Wednesdays :)

As promised at practice today - cold water swim gear for our Silver kids to help with the chilly temps at Northland.  If you can find anything made of Polyolefin (especially a swim shirt) that would be a first choice.  Cold water gear should be purchased to fit snug but not tight. We are testing a new online meet registration system, beginning with the Ohio Open Water Championships.  You should have received an email from me if you are eligible for this meet.  When you follow the link, please either sign up for the meet or check off that you are not available.  After you have finished this process, please shoot me an email and let me know what you thought of the online sign up.

Paralympic Trials

I will be in Bismarck, ND with Richard at the Paralympic trials June 12-17.  My absence coincides with the start of our summer schedule and a long 3 day swim meet.  The coaches will be working hard with your kids while I am away.  I will do my best to update the team of all the happenings in Bismarck via twitter.  You can follow me @swimbuckeye

Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

A certain daughter complained to her father about her life and how things have been so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and she wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that just as one problem was solved, another arose. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen, filled three pots with water and placed the fire on high. Soon the three pots came to a boil. In one he placed carrots, in the other he placed eggs, and in the last he placed ground coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word. The daughter sucked her teeth and impatiently wondered what he was trying to do. She had problems, and he was making this strange concoction. In half an hour, he walked over to the range and turned down the fire. He pulled the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then he ladled the coffee out and placed the liquid in a bowl. Turning to her, he asked, “Darling, what do y
