Google Reviews

Parents, we are now a located business on Google!  We have already seen increased traffic to the website and interest in the club as a result.  We do need your help.  Please take a minute to Google us and give us a review.  This will help people know that we are legit.  If you have time to include a sentence or two about what you like most about Buckeye that would also be wonderful. Remember you are reviewing the team and not the facility.  Facility feedback can be added to the Columbus North Athletic Club Google page. Thanks!

Spread Kindness Project

Image
14 Acts of Kindness
In an effort to make our corner or the world a kinder place, we'd like to do a small spread kindness project with the team.  There are 14 weeks between each groups first day and last meet this summer. We would like to have a different spread kindness project each week and are taking suggestions from swimmers and parents! Please submit your ideas for a weekly kindness project.  Each project should be something short and simple to do, and something that an eight year old could complete with little stress. We are looking for small acts of kindness that brightens the day of people around us.

Here is a great resource to help you get started on ideas to share
http://www.spreadkindness.org/

Our JO team decided they would get the project going and had bag tags made up for the swim meet participants.  They were received with lots of smiles from a lot of very nervous swimmers.  The bag tags are pictured here.

NOTICE TO PARENTS : RACING START SAFETY

From the USA Swimming office:
To  avoid risk  of  serious  injury,  no  swimmer  who has  not  been  properly  trained should attempt  to  perform  a racing start,  from  either  a  starting  block  or  the side  of  the  pool,  into less  than six  feet  of  water.

USA  Swimming has  implemented  a  racing  start  certification program  where  a swimmer’s  coach documents  his  or  her  professional  judgment  that  a  swimmer  has  demonstrated sufficient  skill  to  safely perform  a  racing  start  into  four  feet  of  water  in  competition.

There are  rare  occasions  when swimmers  may  participate  in swimming competitions  not  under  the supervision of  a  certified  home club  coach.  In  these situations,  it  is  the parent’s  responsibility  to make sure the swimmer  does  not  attempt  to perform  a  racing start  in less  than  six  feet  of  water  if  the swimmer  has  not been properly  certified  by  the  swimmer’s  home  club coach  to  do so.  (Additionally,  sh…

Regional Wrap Up

(it’s never too late to recognize our awesome kiddos)
The team competed at Regionals last month at Ohio State and had quite the amazing meet.  Beyond winning events  and moving on to JO’S, it’s really important to us that all of our swimmers are continuing to show improvements.  And wow! did they ever!!

Personal Best Sweeps
The following swimmers had all best times, which is quite a huge accomplishment! Especially considering many of these kiddos swam over a dozen events in three days between prelims and finals.
Leah Adkins, Samantha Blackburn, Jonathan Diakogeorgiou, Amanda Jones, Tyler Klein, Justin Li, Thaine Nederveld, Aubrey Pritchard, Nathan Reynolds, Kaitlyn Sallows, Kayla Simashkevich, Will Stringer and competing in their first meets Karen Yang and Toby Halker!!

Bests less One (or Two)
The following swimmers hit best times in all but one event:
Nanami Campbell, Reece Hanley, Christopher Martin, Melaina Randall & Ella Seelandt!
And these awesome people hit best times in all…

New this season- Challenge Weeks.  During challenge weeks, we will challenge each training group to try something new and extend their swimming in a way that they haven't before.  Challenge weeks will start on the last Monday of every month (April 30, May 28 and June 25).  There will be an additional challenge week for Scarlet Gold swimmers the week of April 9.  The schedule for challenge week will be as follows: Senior and Junior, no change in schedule.  Scarlet Gold follows the Junior schedule and will train with Junior. We ask that swimmers help each other carpool so that they can attend all 5 practices (Sunday through Thursday) during this week.  This will be an increased opportunity to grow your training in a new way and challenge yourself to reach a highe…

USA Swimming, Letter from the President

Image
Dear USA Swimming Family,
In light of recent media coverage, I would like to provide some perspective on the very important subject matter discussed and the commentary surrounding USA Swimming’s Safe Sport efforts.
Let me be clear: USA Swimming does not tolerate sexual abuse or misconduct, and I assure you that this organization is facing this extremely serious issue with one very clear goal – protecting children and athletes.
Every day we work hard to get better as an organization. We are never complacent. We want to listen and to hear from you. We are rightfully held to a high standard by our membership and our peers, and we will continue to work tirelessly to educate members, put policies in place, and empower clubs to create the best possible environments for all members.
We will not shy away from acknowledging or supporting survivors of abuse, and we will strive to ensure that there is never a lapse of a support system again…

2018 OH OSSC SC Regional Championships

Image
The psych sheet and the tentative timeline are posted on our website. Also attached is a draft of the warm-up assignments. If you have any concerns with these assignments, please let me know by 8 a.m. Monday.
Warmup and Overview of Session Times Timeline information is outlined in the warm-up assignment document. As a reminder the varsity team has scheduled use of the pool on Sunday for their varsity last chance NCAA qualifier which is why we must work our sessions around them. Our Sunday morning session will start at 7:15 a.m. rather than 9:15 a.m. as on Friday and Saturday. All finals timelines are the same though if the varsity meet were to run long we will shift back accordingly. I don't expect this to be an issue though.
1650 Freestyle To ensure that we wrap up Sunday prelims and time trials in time, all 1650s will be swum with finals. We will swim those fastest to slowest alternating girls and boys (there are only three total heats, 2 girls and 1 boys).

Championship T-Shirt Order Form

Image
We very much appreciate how pragmatic our swimmers and parents have been about our sometimes less than ideal temperstures.. This is a hardy bunch, so we think our championship shirt should reflect that.  This year’s championship shirt will be a dark heather Gildan 8000, 5.6-ounce, 50 cotton/50 DryBlend poly (preshrunk jersey knit) with moisture wicking properties.  The front will be our team logo that appears to be frozen, the back will have the following quote:

“Neither snow nor rain nor frigid pool nor gloom of morning stays these swimmers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

All swimmers participating at Regionals, Auburn, Mini Meet, JO’s and/or USA Sectionals will receive this shirt at no charge (thank you Boosters)!  Parents, family members and all other swimmers may order this shirt for $10.  Please complete the following order form & return to a coach or a Sallows at practice with a check (no cash please) made payable to Buckeye Swim Club Boosters by Wednes…
