Welcome to our New Coaches!

Let's give a warm Buckeye welcome to our TWO new coaches Jules Van der Lans and Chloe Sidick!  Jules & Chloe are both Seniors at Olentangy Liberty High School and former members of Buckeye.  They come to us with over a year of experience of teaching at SafeSplash and will be applying that & their competitive experience to the pool deck.  Initially you will see both Chloe & Jules assisting Laurie on Thursdays.  This is a huge help as Laurie has been outnumbered by our swimmers!  We are very excited to have their enthusiasm and teaching skills on our pool deck.  Make sure you introduce yourself and welcome them if you happen to be at the pool on a Thursday.

Slack and the future of the TeamApp app

Big & exciting news!By leveraging our boosters nonprofit status, we have been able to grab a Slack account for free!  As a result we are in the process of migrating from the TeamApp app to Slack.  We are very excited about what this means for ease of communication within our program.

We will use public and private channels within Slack.  Public channels will be for group and team communication.  Private channels will be a way for swimmers, parents and coaches to privately communicate.  This includes sharing how a swimmer is doing, videos and attendance.  In a  private channel a parent must be a member - this increases the safety of our communication between our athletes and coaches.  As you know, our athlete protection standards prohibit all athletes from direct/private electronic communication with a coach. Athletes must be 13 or older to join Slack.

You may use the following link to join our Slack Feed:
Join Slack

What is Slack?
We’re glad you asked! Slack is a collaboration hub that connects your organization — all the pieces and the people — so you can get things done.

Why use Slack?

  • Collaborate online just like you would in person.
  • Bring the right people and information together in one place.
  • Communicate efficiently, stay connected, and get things done faster.

Channels
Slack is comprised of channels: a single place for messaging, tools, and files. Most of your communication with other members will happen in channels.

They can be organized around anything — departments, projects, or even office locations — and you can create as many channels as you need. Every workspace starts with two by default: a #general channel and a #random channel.

Channel types
👀Public Channels
  • Public channels are open to your entire workspace.
  • Messages are archived in Slack and searchable by all members, except guests.
  • A public channel has a # hashtag icon in its name.
🙈Private Channels
  • Private channels are not open to your entire workspace.
  • You have to be invited to view and participate in the channel's discussion.
  • A private channel has a  lock icon in its name.

  3. Be the "VOICE" for the athletes in Ohio Swimming.

Team Gear

As some of you have heard we have been debating whether to keep our team suit (Speedo Caged Out) for this season.  We have decided to do so believing that we have a small enough number of new swimmers that everyone should be able to get the suit should they need it.  If you need a suit,m we recommend that you order asap from SwimOutlet.

Some additional reminders and links about all things team gear related:

  • We present ourselves at meets in a team uniform with a uniform look. All items should be team approved and have our logo and be in the team approved colors.
  • Always shop at https://www.swimoutlet.com/bkys/   -not only do they have great prices, they also give a percent back to the Boosters.
  • We are sponsored by Speedo.  per our agreement all swimmers MUST wear Speedo suits at meets.  According to Speedo they will have small enough size tech suits this year for our younger swimmers (should those continue to be allowed).
  • The team backpack is Silver.  Please order the backpack in Silver  - this is the only bag that is permitted to have our logo on it.  Then do the cruise ship tip and add a brightly colored bag tag so that it is easy to find in the sea of team bags.
  • We are OUT of caps and will be placing a new order soon.  Be gentle with yours!

Meet Invites - Decline or Accept

We are starting to send out meet invitations via our Active Parent Portal.  Each swimmer is required to either DECLINE or ACCEPT the invite PRIOR to the deadline.  We will update our team meet calendar with deadlines to help you keep those organized.

It is best practice to respond to a meet the day you receive the invite.  Then set a reminder in your calendar of the deadline, so that if you want to make changes you can.

The coaches spend far too much time tracking down missing responses.  Let's make sure the coaches are free to spend their time focusing on helping our swimmers improve instead.

Thank you  - and as always feel free to send your questions to coach Laurie.
