Team News June 20-July 4

Weather Plan and Practice
Normally we would find a nice dry space to do dry land, talk goal setting or read our team book. However, tonight’s storm may be particularly bad and may carry into the morning.  If the storms are rough, we will text everyone 45 minutes before practice start time to change or cancel practice. Please be sure your cell phone number is in your active.com account.  We will follow the text with a post to Facebook and Twitter (@BuckeyeSwimming).

Please note that MC Fitness also close the pool when lightning is clearly present in the area (not thunder). While the pool is grounded there is a lot of glass surrounding the area.  In this case we would do dryland or read the Scarlet group book, Urban Meyer’s Above the Liberty.

ACTIVE ACCOUNT INFORMATION
We need everyone to log into their active portal and check that their billing is up to date and paid in full.  Several families do not have working payment information and have not paid their fees since registration.  While in there please update email addresses for your kids and add a cell phone for you that we can text to.

Meet Fees due by check
Due to a glitch in the fee collecting system, we are collecting fees by check for this meet. Please bring checks payable to Buckeye Swim Club to the meet or tomorrow mornings practice.  You can look up your fee invoice in your active.com portal.

We are very excited about this meet and the training the kids have put in this past year, including some very focused practices these last few weeks. The coaching staff has the following goals for the team this week-end:
·         Support our teammates.  Parents sit together and support all of our swimmers. Swimmers cheer your teammates on and congratulate good swims and extra efforts.
·         Average 1 second drop per 100 or 75% best times
·         Clean up our team areas without help from adults!
·         Show respect and sportsmanship to our fellow competitors – let’s represent Ohio and Buckeye proudly.
·         Show good ‘above the line’ character throughout the week-end.  Remember positive & supportive words, focused and purposeful effort from start to finish!

Entering the facility Saturday
Entry to the School Campus on Saturday AM only:
Access to Franklin Community HS campus limited until 9:30am
Due to a youth sprint triathlon, which was the reason for our “adapted Saturday meet schedule,” entry to campus will likely be shut down to around 9:30am.  With warm-up being at 10am, this doesn’t harm our start time, but access to entry and parking could be rather limited until 9:30-9:45am.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE CHANGES
Thursday, June 23 Scarlet (5:45-7:30) Silver and age group (5:45-7:15) at MC Fitness.  No scarlet dryland at 5 beforehand, no dryland after.
Tuesday, June 28 Senior and Junior will practice at the sports club at 3:15-4:45
Thursday, June 30 Senior and Junior will train at MC Fitness 6-8 pm
Monday, July 4 am only for senior/ Junior (Lew will communicate time)

TEAM DINNER
Saturday, June 25
We are planning to have a team potluck dinner Saturday in Franklin.  Details will be given at the meet once we figure out what’s what in Indy.

PAY ON DECK
Just a friendly reminder that free stroke clinics are earned through attendance in the Scarlet and Silver groups.  Those that do not earn a free clinic should pay $10 at the door.  Age group participants have one included clinic a week that was built into their summer fee.

BEST OF LUCK TO RICHARD MAZUR
Richard and Coach Lew head to Charlotte on Wednesday, June 29 for the US Paralympic Trials June 30-July 2.  Go Richard!

Extra T-Shirts

The Pollock Family has donated about 60 t-shirts sporting the new team logo to our Booster Club. The shirts come in a variety of colors and sizes. Each family will have their chance to pick ONE shirt on Monday or Tuesday at practice. On Wednesday, any shirts remaining will be available to anyone. A donation to the booster club for your shirt is optional. The kids are now receiving their team t-shirts that were made exclusively for kids and coaches. Kast-A-Way has not yet printed our red t-shirts, if you would like to order one I suggest you call today. These shirts are being printed on a light weight t-shirt from Sport Tek.

Coach of the Year

Dear Coach, Hope this email finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are writing today on behalf of the upcoming feature film COACH OF THE YEAR: an independent, kid-friendly sports comedy feature film based on the inspiring true story of a rag tag swim team that tries to win a state championship…without a pool to practice in. Director Dave Stott, who has coached swimming for twenty years, hopes that with this film, we will entertain and inspire kids all over the country to learn to swim. Another goal of this film is to raise awareness about drowning as the leading cause of accidental deaths and to help kids all over the country learn to swim safely. The underdog story has been told before, but not for our sport. This is a movie for swimmers (and would-be swimmers), made by people who know the sport intimately and love it passionately, and we’d love for you to be involved. We wanted to ask you and your team to help spread the word about COACH OF THE YEAR, and get you & you

Finalists!
