Leah Adkins, Sophia Arnold, Samantha Blackburn, Nanami Campbell, Phillip Johnson, Amanda Jones, Samantha Jones, Jeanette Lopeman, Nicholas Mountz, Nathan Reynolds, Christopher Sabharwal, Sai Vidur Senthil Nathan, Sai Vidyud Senthil Nathan and Brody Van Frayen!
Swimmer of the meet recognition was so tight that we had to calculate in practice attendance and percent of time dropped!
First up from the UA meet is Brody Van Frayen! Brody had what we like to call a 'break out' meet, making huge drops in his swims from just a few weeks prior. Brody is a quiet listener at practice and tries very hard to apply our stroke concepts. Next, also from the UA meet is Sai Vidyud! Sai swam his first ever 500 free (and in that race his first 200) at UA and also had big drops in his events from just a few weeks ago. Sai is a diligent learner at practice and a great communicator! Also, from the UA meet, Amanda Jones! Mandy is one of our toughest workers and has been training with speed and a great attitude towards making stroke improvements. She also had huge drops from her swims just a few weeks prior! Last, from the OSU meet, Christopher Sabharwal! Christopher not only continues to have time drops each meet, he also competed in his first mile. The coaches were very impressed with how composed he was and his ability to follow the race plan - he descended his 500's and negative split the race! Congratulations swimmers!!
We hit on two very simple and very effective freestyle and backstroke drills. The progress in free was more than obvious at the UASC meet making us very proud coaches! The backstroke drill was added at the UA meet and is making some impact on their skills at practice.
At UA & OSU, we asked the swimmers to remember the skills that we asked them to work on and improve. Interestingly, several could not recall these quickly when asked at practice a few days later. Keeping a swimmer log book would help resolve this. After each practice, swimmers should jot notes on how they felt at practice and what went well, what didn’t (can use the commit app for this). After each meet, swimmers should write down their times, feelings/thoughts and coaches comments on what they need to improve. For those using the commit app, we will start adding meets into the practice log so they can use this for their notes. If you are having trouble logging in to commit, please email.
Each swimmer should have completed a goal sheet. We will begin setting up meetings with our swimmers to review these and go over areas to focus on to help them attain their goals.
Everyone should have a water bottle at practice. Everyone should have athletic or running shoes on Monday through Thursday.
We spoke to the kids several weeks ago about this and are finally ready to put it into play. We would like each swimmer to give a 2-5 minute presentation to their teammates on what motivates them. This can be a video or speech but cannot simply be a song. If they utilize a song they will need to analyze it further on why it is motivational. We will help the swimmers with their presentation and will approve all before they are presented. By doing this our swimmer should gain a deeper understanding of their passion for swimming. This will also give them an opportunity to be a leader in their group and should take quite a few of our kids out of their comfort zone. Last, we will end up starting each practice with some very positive motivation over the course of 6 weeks. The kids will receive the parameters for this assignment in writing.
On these days after arriving at the pool we would like our Scarlet swimmers to head straight to the dryland room. Please take all gear and bags up to the room as well. Parents are welcome up there until a coach arrives (if there’s room you are welcome to stay & do dryland with us). This will help keep the pool deck quiet(er) so that coaches can concentrate on the groups in the water. This is not necessary for our Thursday practice as we are first!

Also, now that all groups are at the same location - with some overlap in start and end times - please remind your swimmers to be respectful of the groups still in the water who need to be able to hear the coaches. Swimmers should put their bags on the North (step) side of the pool. Parents, we are asking that you please use the South side or deep end of the pool and not the shallow end. The shallow end gets very crowded with swimmers, equipment, and coaches. You are always welcome to bring your own chair to practice if you are worried that there may not be enough seating.

Fundraising Fee Update
At registration for the current swim season, all team members were notified of a mandatory fundraising requirement by the Buckeye Swim Club to the Buckeye Swim Booster Club. Below are the two options for fulfilling this requirement:
1. No Fundraising Option – You can pay the appropriate $200, $300, or $400 fee per swimmer directly to the Buckeye Swim Club Boosters if you do not want participate in booster club fundraisers. Payment can be made anytime by check to the “Buckeye Swim Club Boosters, Inc.”, but no later than Thursday, January 12, 2017. 2. Fundraising Option – The booster club will offer various fundraising opportunities to swim club families throughout the season. All monies raised over the cost of the fundraiser will be credited towards each swimmers required fundraising requirement. If a swimmers full fundraiser requirement is not met, families will be required to make payment for the difference. If you are unsure of the level of your fundraising requirement, please see Coach Karr. Payment can be made anytime by check to the “Buckeye Swim Club Boosters, Inc.”, but no later than Thursday, January 12, 2017. One fundraising option being offered to swimmers/families is a raffle ticket sale. Tickets are sold for a donation of $10 to the Buckeye Swim Club Booster Club. All donations are tax deductible since the booster club in a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. At the pre-regional swim meet pasta dinner, 5 winning raffle tickets will be drawn with payouts of $1000, $500, $250, $150 and $100. If you are a swimmer/family that’s opting out of fundraising, please consider purchasing raffle tickets to meet your fundraising requirement, you may just win! It looks like the warm up times for this meet are 7 AM on Sunday. Due to time restraints, I did not get a block of rooms reserved but I spoke with this hotel and they have plenty of rooms available at the present time. I am also looking to plan some kind of social event for the team aka Holiday Celebration for Saturday late afternoon/early evening!
