Spring into Summer Meet IMPORTANT Updates

Psych sheets are posted on our website.  We have also posted entries for this meet, the Creekside and the Peppe.

Below is an IMPORTANT PARKING UPDATE of which you need to be aware as you head to campus this weekend.

Friday, June 1
Park at the Neil Avenue Garage no earlier than 4:01 p.m.  Parking will be at a rate of $5 on the way into the garage.  Please exercise patience going into and out of the garage, as there will likely be long lines to get in and out.  If you arrive before 4:01 p.m., or if would like to avoid the Neil Avenue Garage, parking is available at an hourly rate at the Tuttle Park Place Garage.

Saturday, June 2
The Neil Avenue Garage will be CLOSED.  Park in the Stadium Lots or the Tuttle Park Place Garage.  Parking will be free in those areas all day; however you must park legally in an A, B or C spot (stay in the lines, stay out of R spots or handicap spots, etc.) to avoid tickets.  The turnaround loop in front of the garage by the Aquatic Pavilion will still be open for drop-off/pick-up, but traffic needs to keep moving so as not to cause a traffic jam.

Sunday, June 3
Park at the Neil Avenue Garage.  Parking will be at a rate of $5 on the way into the garage.  Please exercise patience going into and out of the garage, as there will likely be long lines to get in and out.  Parking is also available at an hourly rate at the Tuttle Park Place Garage.

Be an Informed Athlete! USADA Launches to Provide Facts about the Risks Involved with Dietary Supplement Use.

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced today the launch of its new dietary supplement awareness website, Supplement 411, in an effort to meet the growing demand in the U.S. for accurate information, resources and guidance as potential consumers navigate the dietary-supplement marketplace.

“The current marketplace has created a dilemma in which all athletes must balance their beliefs that these products provide a nutritional benefit, with the very real threat of the potential for dangerous health side-effects,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart.

Supplement 411 is the latest tool in a growing collection of resources including, publications, presentations, and online resources USADA provides to help parents, athletes, and athlete support personnel understand the risks associated with the use of dietary supplements and provide them the necessary information to make a healthy, informed decision.

Supplement 411 provides an informational framework for understanding the issues surrounding dietary supplements, addressing important areas including: challenging the commonly held perceptions that dietary supplements are safe and effective; raising awareness of the risks in the dietary supplement marketplace; and providing guidance, resources and steps that can be taken to reduce risk as much as possible if an individual decides to use dietary supplements.

USADA, along with other anti-doping entities, leagues and sport organizations around the world are often asked to provide definitive answers regarding dietary supplement product safety.

“Education is key when making a choice whether or not to use a supplement. After checking out the new Supplement 411 website I got peace of mind from the 'Advanced Nutrition' section,” said Lauryn Williams Olympic medalist and World Champion sprinter, “Using reputable resources such as the Supplement 411 website can help you make the decision that is best for you.”

Supplement 411 hopes to empower all athletes to make the best informed decision concerning supplement use. Supplement 411 will also list products that USADA has determined are of a higher risk to contain prohibited substances. The initial, and growing list, contains more than 100 products that either openly list ingredients on their labels, or have been tested and shown to contain substances, that are on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. USADA will update the list regularly.

USADA is the non-profit, independent and non-governmental entity responsible for the testing and results management process in the U.S. for athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, upholding the Olympic ideal of fair play, and representing the interests of athletes. USADA is dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs

Virginia Team Trip Information

I was hoping to have a more detailed update for the Virginia trip, however we have run into a bit of a delay in getting an accurate bus quote.  It looks like the trip will be between $200-250 per swimmer under the following circumstances:

  • Depart Columbus at approx 8 am Thursday
  • Return to Columbus by midnight Sunday (we are checking on the feasibility of traveling home overnight and arriving early Monday am).
  • Staying at either the Hilton Garden in or the Omni Newport News, both are smoke free hotels.
  • The cost estimate includes breakfast, but does not include lunch and dinner.
At this point planning is getting a bit difficult without an accurate idea of who will attend the meet. We discussed this meet a long time ago when we decided to eliminate the team travel trip during school months.  However, not much has been said about it since.  The meet is an excellent opportunity for our swimmers to compete in a very exciting format and see competition from outside our state.  The venue is terrific and the host team is very organized.  I have had several opportunities to speak with the hosts via email and in person (at the NASA meet) regarding the meet and think this can be a great place for our kids of all levels to learn, grow and improve. Meet information will be posted on our team website on Tuesday afternoon.

In order to book this trip at this price we need 35 swimmers age 9 or over to email by Thursday their interest in traveling with the team.  This meet will be chaperoned entirely by the coaching staff.  Anyone attending the meet will be required to ride the bus and travel with the team.  I will post our status with this meet on our FB page on Friday morning.

The following swimmers are currently eligible to swim the Mike Peppe meet (time standards are national BB for 12-un, National A for 13+). This meet is the week-end following Virginia.

Jeremy B, Parker, Grace B*, Luke, Lauren, Kelly*, Olie, Natalie, Bobbi, Katherine*, Rachel, Emma*, Macey, Grace W, Graham*, Nathan, Andrew, Sam E, Tom, Kyle*, Eliza, Maddie, Ally, Keanan, Cam, Jeremy, Makenzie, Elissa, Stacie, Kara, Elllie, Mara, Skyler, Nick, Anthony
*Qualified in one event only.

Community Pool Meeting

Buckeye will be present at a  meeting on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:00 pm in the Olentangy Orange HS auditorium. This will be an informational meeting for the Olentangy School District & Buckeye swimming community.  The meeting will focus on three aspects: (1) Educate and inform those outside of Buckeye what is going on with  the project, (2) recruit additional investment into the pool and (3) discuss forming a booster board comprised of parties interested in renting the pool long term (annually).  Currently (in addition to Buckeye) we have interest from a local synchro group and the Olentangy school teams.

Enroll in Kroger Rewards

As far as I know we are the only group that puts 100% of your Kroger Community Rewards into your account.  Most PTO's keep a percent for their organization.  April is re-enroll month - we usually do very well in the summer months as many schools do not push re-enrollment until the fall.  This gives us a bigger piece of the pie for Kroger to send our way.

Kroger rewards are simple to use - you just scan your linked Kroger card at checkout.  We receive quarterly statements of your rewards that we put straight into your meet or travel fund.

You can easily enroll at - simply sign in and go to your account page.  Click on Community rewards and make sure Buckeye Swim Club is linked to your account.
