2013-2014 Registration

Important!  Lower fees & lower commitment  - please read!
Registration for Fall & Winter is now open.  You can get information and register at our new website:
https://buckeyeswimclub.swimtopia.com/join

We have several important changes for the year:

  • Your commitment is through March of 2014 rather than through the entire year.
  • Buckeye, Silver & Scarlet swimmers will start the season with a 6 week stroke clinic.
  • We have added a High School Training Group.
  • We will add an optional Distance training group that will meet approximately once a week.
  • We will add optional morning practices for those early birds out there.
  • If we get enough interest, we will add a morning Masters group.
Unfortunately, we do not have a training schedule yet.  We hope to add some of that late next week.  We are attempting to pick up weekday practice time at the North YMCA, OWU and one secret location (it's a long shot anyway).  If anyone has a contact at the Josephenum - please pass it along, we would also like to speak with them about renting their indoor pool for our younger swimmers.

The Fall/Winter fees reflect what we believe it would cost for us to continue to run a 115 member team. Adding kids to our roster helps us keep the fees low.  Please help us recruit!  Also, the fees are set up anticipating much higher pool rent costs (OWU is twice as expensive as the sports club).

New pool - we are awaiting word from the Boy Scout council regarding building at Camp Lazarus.  If that falls through we will proceed with the purchase of the land on Peachblow Rd.  If anyone knows what Ohio Health is adding to their Delaware Campus next, I would love to know (at one point there was to be a 25 yard pool).

Training Schedule
Please check back at the new website regularly.  As we fill in the schedule and locations we will post there.

Extra T-Shirts

The Pollock Family has donated about 60 t-shirts sporting the new team logo to our Booster Club. The shirts come in a variety of colors and sizes. Each family will have their chance to pick ONE shirt on Monday or Tuesday at practice. On Wednesday, any shirts remaining will be available to anyone. A donation to the booster club for your shirt is optional. The kids are now receiving their team t-shirts that were made exclusively for kids and coaches. Kast-A-Way has not yet printed our red t-shirts, if you would like to order one I suggest you call today. These shirts are being printed on a light weight t-shirt from Sport Tek.

Coach of the Year

Dear Coach, Hope this email finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are writing today on behalf of the upcoming feature film COACH OF THE YEAR: an independent, kid-friendly sports comedy feature film based on the inspiring true story of a rag tag swim team that tries to win a state championship…without a pool to practice in. Director Dave Stott, who has coached swimming for twenty years, hopes that with this film, we will entertain and inspire kids all over the country to learn to swim. Another goal of this film is to raise awareness about drowning as the leading cause of accidental deaths and to help kids all over the country learn to swim safely. The underdog story has been told before, but not for our sport. This is a movie for swimmers (and would-be swimmers), made by people who know the sport intimately and love it passionately, and we’d love for you to be involved. We wanted to ask you and your team to help spread the word about COACH OF THE YEAR, and get you & you

Is my child ready to swim meets?

We had a coaches discussion on this  - and yes, all of our Elite group swimmers are ready for meets.  Please look at the meet calendar and sign up for the days that you are available.  We will pick events that are appropriate for your swimmer.  We pick events that your child can do well and will build their confidence.  We also believe strongly in placing your child in events that will challenge them.  While we strive for excellence, making a mistake in an event is OK and can be a great learning experience.  Trying and failing is teaches a lot more  about your abilities than not trying at all.
